Food Microbiology Laboratory is located in Room 9E610 (about 66 square meters), Nanshan Building, Xinzhuang Campus, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing. It is used for general microbiology experiment and food microbiology experiment teaching activities. It is designed to accommodate 32 students. The laboratory provides equipment, instruments and glassware for the above courses. The main equipment is microscope, constant temperature incubator, ultra clean workbench and so on. The total value of instruments and equipment is more than 680,000 RMB. The laboratory mainly serves for teaching and research, and its main teaching objects are food science and engineering students. At present, the laboratory undertakes one national college students' innovation training project, two provincial college students' innovation training projects, and three university students' innovation training projects. In this laboratory, students can master the basic operation skills of microbial experiments, and cultivate the ability of observation, analysis and problem solving through experiments, so as to further stimulate students' innovation consciousness and innovation ability. Students can master the routine detection methods of microorganisms in food, consolidate the theoretical knowledge of food microbial detection, and be familiar with the commonly used detection instruments and equipment. Students' experimental skills in food microbiological inspection are cultivated and improved, which can lay a practical foundation for food production hygiene control and food safety testing.
This is a side view of the Food Microbiology Laboratory. In the laboratory, students learn the use of ordinary light microscopy, the simple staining and Gram staining of bacteria, the morphological observation of actinomycetes, molds and yeasts, the preparation and sterilization of culture media, the detection of the number of microorganisms in food, the control of harmful microorganisms in food and yoghurt production. These experiments may improve the ability of students in microorganism nutrition and growth related experiment operation, such as culture medium preparation, microorganism separation, blood counting plate, microorganism counting.

The equipment used for culture medium production includes Bechtop, sterilizing pot, centrifuge, etc. The equipment used for microbial culture includes spiral inoculator, incubator, shaker and fermenter, etc. The instruments and equipment used for morphological observation of microorganisms include optical microscope, orthographic microscope and inverted microscope. The instruments and equipment used for microbial examination include centrifuge, PCR amplifier, electrophoresis instrument, biosensor, gel imaging system, UV/VIS spectrophotometer, etc. The instruments and equipment used for yoghurt making include constant temperature incubator and refrigerator.
